BMM Profile: Greg Peck

I grew up in the Bronx during the 50s. The two most important things to me besides family were music and football. I used to fall asleep to the sounds of my transistor radio. In those days, it was listening to WWRL, WMCA and WABC. So I grew up with an appreciation for pop, rock and of course R&B. But my first love was football. I wanted to play at least college ball.

I went to college in rural Ohio at Ohio Wesleyan University where I played two years of football. But after some racial tension, the four black players quit the team based on lack of deserved playing time. One of my schoolmates said the school had a radio station. I auditioned and landed a spot on WSLN. I had a weekly jazz program I named “Jazz Off The Top.” I continued that show at Bowling Green State University.

All along I didn’t know a record business existed. A local record store owner asked me if I ever thought about entering the record business. My answer was “What is that?” To make a longer story shorter, I was fortunate to find my way to a business that provided me with employment on and off for 23 years. Some of my favorite artists I worked with were Teddy Pendergrass, Anthony Hamilton, Grandmaster Flash, Midnight Star, Steel Pulse, Will Downing, Dexter Gordon, Ronnie Foster and the Heath Brothers to name a few.

When time came to transition, I followed my passion for fitness and became a personal trainer, health educator and am evolving into a health and wellness coach. My website is gregpeckfitnessandwellness.com. I can also be reached at gpsande@gmail.com. My inspirational song is Roy Ayers’ “Life Is Just A Moment.”
