BMM 2021 – Our 2019 Honorees

Who would’ve known that 2019 would be our last in-person gala for 2 years! In honor of #BlackMusicMonth & our 30th Anniversary, we are remembering our past awards dinners & honorees.

We were refining the guests’ experiences, trying something new each year.  Our videographers were Max and Madison Shelton, children of industry vet Troy Shelton and they roamed the cocktail party getting soundbites.  Another industry vet, Penny Chan hosted a Facebook Livestream, giving a play-by-play of who was there.  Tell us what you remember! Ray and Vivian Chew served as the Event Chairpersons and DeDe McGuire returned as the host.  A number of music execs flew in to support the honorees, many attending the gala for the first time. Celebrities also flew in to support their friends and we counted Bobby Brown, Kelly Rowland, Michelle Williams, YoYo, Israel and Adrienne Houghton, Cathy Hughes and Elroy Smith among the guests and Tito Jackson was the night’s performer. The honorees that year were:

Top row L-R:  Hymen Childs, Founder Service Broadcast Group/K-104 Radio; Dyana Williams, CEO Influence Entertainment & Godmother of Black Music Month; Karen Lee, Senior VP W&W Public Relations

2nd row L-R: Maurice White, VP Entertainment One; Dedra Tate, CEO Unlimited Contacts; Phil Thornton, Senior VP & GM, RCA Inspiration; Sheila Coates, CEO BYOB/Be Your Own Brand

3rd row L-R:  Sidney Miller, Founder BRE/Black Radio Exclusive magazine; Frank Ski, renowned radio personality; Steve Hegwood, radio broadcaster Core Communications

We honor their contributions to the music industry.  Full bios will be at livinglegendsfoundation.com.
