Black Music Month Remembers Kenny Diamond

Much like his radio name, Kenny Diamond was priceless!  During his well-lived life, he spread his talents over two careers making a name for himself in both radio and the ministry.  Born Sidney Morris Wood, Jr. in Charlotte, NC, he attended Morehouse and the University of Georgia in Athens, GA where he pledged Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc.

Blessed with an enviable voice, it wasn’t long before he made his way to radio as a college student. He began broadcasting professionally, promoting ministries, businesses, and events. He also became proficient in radio programming and sales.   It was during the 80s on WVEE (V-103) in Atlanta that Wood became the music director and a popular afternoon drive, on-air personality who went by the name “Kenny Diamond.”

During his career, he held positions at several radio stations and provided voice-over services, while working as an imaging consultant.   Soon thereafter, he hosted the inspirational and motivational “The Sidney Wood Show, on WAOK, where he interviewed guests on a wide range of topics.  Wood then pivoted and founded Mustard Seed Living Faith Church in metro-Atlanta,  where he served as pastor.  The mission of this church was to seek out and invite members of the homeless community, ministering to them both spiritually and physically by providing scripture, clothing, and meals.   He then founded and served as president of New Covenant Communications, LLC, a firm that provided marketing and media services to ministries that targeted the faith-based marketplace. He was also a member of The Concerned Black Clergy of Metropolitan Atlanta and World Changers Church International.

Sidney Morris Wood, Jr., AKA Kenny Diamond died on Feb. 1, 2020, at the age of 54.

Legends are defined by their work and how it impacts the culture.  We remember Sidney  Wood, fondly known as Kenny Diamond so others don’t forget.
