Black Music Month Remembers George Moore

Whether it was in Los Angeles, Detroit or Houston, for 40 years, George Lee Moore’s unique style could be heard on the radio delivering jazz and other music genres as only a veteran radio man could.  Prior to relocating to his home state of Michigan, for decades Moore, a man of many talents, served as an active producer, program director, production manager, voice talent and personality working at KACE, KFI, KGFJ, KJLH, KKTT, KMPC, KPWR, WSRF, Metro Traffic, WVMV, “Da Sipp,” CBS Radio and countless other stations.

Known throughout his career as “Smooth George,” Moore, a long time Civic Center TV Reporter, was also the host of his own Internet Radio Show entitled, “Black Silk Experience.”  A seasoned pro, it was no surprise that this stalwart radio personality was the Man Of The Hour at Smooth Jazz V98.7 and Metro Networks.

Moore was born March 1, 1957, in Detroit, Michigan, the seventh of eight children. A resilient and curious child, he loved baseball, music, and radio broadcasting.  Moore worked as an intern at WDRQ in the early 1970s while attending and then graduating from Cody High School. He later attended Specs Howard to start his career in radio broadcasting.  George Moore died on December 25, 2019, at the age of 62.

Legends are defined by their work and how it impacts the culture.  We remember George Moore so others don’t forget.
