BBM Profile: Michael Frisby

I first realized my love for radio hanging around WESY in Greenville, MS when I was in high school. The studio was literally in the middle of a cotton field. In 1966 I enrolled in Howard University. Personality radio was king in D.C. at that time. The two top R&B stations in D.C. were WOL and WOOK. During my junior year at Howard, I landed a DJ job at WOOK. I worked there as a DJ until graduation in 1970. I left Howard (and WOOK) to attend Harvard Law in 1970. During my 2nd year at Harvard, I applied for and got a DJ job at WILD Boston. Some time later I was promoted to PD. Prior to graduation I was offered and accepted the position of National Program Director of Sheridan Broadcasting (WILD Boston, WAMO Pittsburgh and WUFO Buffalo). I moved to Pittsburgh (Sheridan’s headquarters) to function as National PD while at the same time doing an on-air shift at WAMO. I left Sheridan to become P.D. of WDIA Memphis.

In January 1979, I left radio and began my legal career with a small Beverly Hills law firm. I later became founder and senior partner of my own law firm. In 1995 I made the difficult decision to go in-house at Sony Pictures Entertainment (SPE). At SPE, I became Assistant General Counsel and V.P. Music Legal/Business Affairs, working on many movies including “Men In Black”, “Spider Man”, “The Karate Kid” and “The Smurfs”.  I left SPE in 2014 and am currently owner of the Law Office of Michael Frisby and Of Counsel to Gerard Fox Law www.gerardfoxlaw.com.   I also run my brother’s hair care products company, Dr. Frisby Hair Products, www.drfrisbyhairproducts.com.
