We’re reminiscing about the 2018 awards dinner with another great group of honorees. In honor of #BlackMusicMonth & our 30th Anniversary, we are remembering our past awards dinners & honorees. We were able to secure Ms. DeDe McGuire, host of the nationally syndicated morning show, DeDe In The Morning, as our host and she brought her co-workers from K-104 in Dallas to enjoy the festivities. Sylvia Rhone served as Honorary Event Chairperson and Azim Rashid was the Event Chairperson. We tapped Minister Greg Johnson of West Angeles Church of God In Christ to deliver the invocation and feed our spirit. We had great gift baskets too, with tickets to the Soul Train Awards in Las Vegas, Apple headphones, All Access passes for the Martha’s Vineyard Film Festival, a swag bag from The Real TV show, a gift card for the famed Mastro’s restaurant and Bruce Talamon’s new book of R&B and Funk photographs. BTW, if you don’t have that book in your collection, Taschen Books is doing a new version so check it out. Bruce documented our music history through photographs. Our celebrity presenters included award-winning film director Lisa Cortes and hip hop legend & host of Café Mocha, YoYo. Kenny Lattimore performed with just piano accompaniment and brought the house down! Do you remember the jam Kenny did with Margo Thunder, Lenny Williams and YoYo? If Eddie Levert hadn’t already left, we’re sure he would’ve joined them. The honorees that year were:
