Vinny Brown is a native New Yorker who we are honored to have on our Board Of Directors. Vinny is a successful radio Air Personality, MD, PD, Operations Manager & L.A. Station Executive VP. Brown’s unprecedented achievement in NYC Urban Radio remains unrivaled. As PD he’s credited for leading WRKS to record setting market dominance with repeated #1 ratings.
Vinny moved to crosstown rival WBLS/WLIB as Operations Manager maneuvering them form #18 to #1 in their demo before heading to the L.A. market. He has built a strong reputation for developing on-air talent as well. It includes working directly as PD, with a number of high profile air personalities from Steve Harvey to Wendy Williams, who both launched syndication from the studios of WBLS, as well as popular Hip Hop DJs Funkmaster Flex, DJ Red Alert, Kid Capri, NYC Caribbean Icon Dahvad Levy & more. Through the years Vinny has also personally worked with many celebrities preparing them to become on-air radio performers such as Stevie Wonder, Isaac Hayes, Nick Ashford & Valerie Simpson, Roberta Flack, Hezekiah Walker, Paul Mooney, Les Brown and others.
Vinny’s experience includes network programming, national radio syndication & the development of international shows for stations in Kobe’ and Tokyo Bay Japan. Vinny’s background includes voicing nationally aired radio spots and producing TV commercials for radio stations. Vinny’s national TV appearances include a judge on “Star Search”, as himself in the sitcom “Martin” and contributing commentary on “Unsung” & “Uncensored”. He was also portrayed in the Lifetime biopic” Wendy Williams: The Movie” & was a consultant to the movie “Juice” featuring Tupac Shakur & Omar Epps. Vinny has received numerous awards within the radio industry and was honored by the Foundation in 2001.
