BHM 2021 – Detroit Black Nightclubs

We’re remembering various clubs in Detroit that were very supportive of the record labels and the radio stations – Club Chic, The Warehouse Club, Rivertown Club, The Lady, Club UBQ and Club Taboo!   WJLB and WGPR hosted weekly events and the labels showcased new artists and brought their established artists to sign autographs.  The promotion reps supported each other’s events and it wasn’t unusual to see radio personalities hanging out at a competing station’s event.

Who did you see there?  George Clinton, Natalie Cole, Cheryl Lynn, Freddie Jackson, Melba Moore were just some of the artists who graced the stage, to the delight of their fans.  Larry Doc Elliott from WJLB would host nights at River Town, Club Taboo AND The Lady! John Edwards and Lynn Briggs from WJLB would host nights at Club Chic on 8 Mile Road and Foody on WGPR hosted Club UBQ.   Share some of your memories of these clubs!
