BHM 2021 – The Cotton Club | Chicago

One of the favorite clubs in Chicago was The Cotton Club at 1710 S. Michigan Avenue from 1987-2008.  It was the upscale spot where promotion reps could get the PDs to come by their artist’s release party since the venue was close to the station.  You’d slip your latest record to the DJ to play when the radio programmers arrived to help you get that add!  The Cab Calloway Room was in the front for live music and the Gray Room was in the back with the DJ.
The champagne was flowing back when the music industry had big expense accounts!  Who did you see there? Tag them in the comments.  The owner, Dr. Yvon Nazon, known as “Doc”, emigrated from Haiti and was a successful gynecologist.  He practiced at Advocate Trinity Hospital and invented Nazon’s Solution to help women recover more quickly from surgery.  He also founded the Cojeunaze Nursing Center, the first nursing home owned by a person of color in Chicago.   Doc only came to the club occasionally and his son Jeune Nazon ran the club.  Do you remember Bob at the door?
We want to hear your stories.  What memories do you have?
