Profile: Cie Cie Wilson McGhee

I knew I wanted to be in the music industry when I was a young child. My first concert was seeing the Jackson 5 in Atlanta.  I was intrigued with the energy coming from the stage, the lights, the production, the people. I found out that Taurus Productions promoted the concerts so at 16, I found the address & cut school one day to visit them.  I met the VP, Jimmy Veal, who gave me my first pep talk about the business of music.  He told me not to cut school anymore & when I turned 18 to come back & he would help me.  He was my mentor until he died in 2005.  I worked for Mr. V’s Figure 8 nightclub, then WIGO, WAOK/V-103 & Urban One learning the art of radio promotion, sales & operations.  I was Charles Geer’s assistant at Atlantic, before becoming the receptionist. I made myself indispensable & have to thank Phil Quartararo for recognizing my work ethic.  I helped him with a document one day when no one else would & the next day I was promoted to Nat’l Sales Assistant! During my time at WEA/WB I worked for Teddy Astin, Trupiedo Crump, Ronnie Johnson, Al Jai Wallace & Stacy LaCroix, who all taught me the art of promotion & the importance of relationships. I was National Promotions Coordinator with some artists in their early careers such as Prince, Queen Latifah, Keith Sweat, Big Daddy Kane, Ice T, Gerald Levert, Miki Howard & Yo Yo, just to name a few.

After records I did promotions for UniverSoul Circus & Government Event Departments & became Director of Cultural Affairs for the City of Riverdale, GA. I co-created The South City Concert Series that featured established acts such as The SOS Band, The Ohio Players, Sheila E, Howard Hewett & Keith Washington.

I’m currently Events Manager for the City of Stockbridge promoting independent artists and local talent for community shows & festivals.  I launched a business called Concert Diva & promote shows, consult, book acts and sell merchandise.  Entertainment coming full circle, using everything that I ever learned & enjoying every minute of it.

My inspirational song is “Keep On” by James D-Train Williams.  I love the lyrics!
