My name is Almen Jones. Currently, I am a freelance digital marketing consultant, manager, CEO of Gravity Entertainment and 1067, and partial owner of Omni Nation Entertainment. My father is Wayman Jones, Sr. He worked with Sony Red/Legacy, Motown, Warner Bros, Dreamworks, Virgin, Polygram and Arista.
According to my father, I’ve heard stories of me as a baby being backstage during shows and sitting on famous artists’ laps. While growing up, I would frequently go to the office with my Dad when he worked in New York.
I would have to say the defining moment when I knew I wanted to be in the music industry was after high school. My Dad offered me to come with him to California to go to college for Photography. I saw California as an opportunity to see what the west coast entertainment industry was like. I attended the Los Angeles Recording Workshop, did multiple internships & the passion for knowledge of different areas of the entertainment industry grew. I started to experiment with videography, photography, making beats, promotions and marketing. Internships were key for me in order to expand my horizon.
My first job was in New York City where I edited commercial and radio spots. Then I did email marketing, photography, video editing, which all led to building a digital marketing company with my Dad. My ultimate goal is to work hand-in-hand with talented artists where I can help them musically and mentally to be better than they were before, both in business and as an individual.
The changes that I’ve seen in the industry are that techniques have stayed the same, but technology has shifted the way it has been presented. For instance, “mixtapes” are not just made via CDs or cassettes. Now, they can be recorded, uploaded and sent as an audio (i.e. .mp3, .wav, .mov) via email or a simple text. Judging by technology, the future seems brighter than it has ever been before.
