WHUR in DC is home. However, I worked extensively with record labels – RCA, Mercury, Capitol, A&M and Casablanca. The Mid-Atlantic & Northeast were promotional territories; then on to national marketing, sales and artist development.
The catalyst for my transition came from observing too many dysfunctional relationships between artists and their money. Not understanding record label accounting and blowing through money without concern for the future. The worst were the handlers who mismanaged, taking financial advantage of young un-informed artists.
My direction turned to offering sound financial advice to the entertainment niche. I enrolled in NYU’s CFP program to pursue credentials in financial services; and concurrently, launched my company, B. Lifted Up!
There is ALWAYS a song in my head. But the project that provided the greatest inspiration at a critical point in my life was Donnie McClurkin’s 1st album. In 1996 I was broken. Brenda Smith, who worked for Warner Gospel, sent me the album. Every morning — power walking with that balm planted the seed of joy that eventually put me back together. Grateful.
Fast forward. B. Lifted Up! is in the business of Education & Finance. Mission: Empowerment through insight, education & training. We provide resources that encourage a greater understanding of money management. Understanding breeds wisdom, wisdom breeds empowerment; and, empowerment makes for a good night’s sleep!
