Davis Cary and I\u2019m an Independent Contractor \/Emmy Award Winning Events &amp; Talent Coordinator for The Office of Cable, Television, Film, Music &amp; Entertainment\u00a0in Washington, DC.\u00a0 My mom is the legendary Sharon L Heyward.<\/p>\n<p>I was a music industry baby.\u00a0 I went all over the place.\u00a0 Some of\u00a0the\u00a0concerts\u00a0that I remember were Rick James &amp; Teena Marie, Teddy Pendergrass, The Whispers and Shalamar, and the list goes on.\u00a0 My fun memories were hanging out with the WBLS Sure Shots going to the basketball games &amp; going to WRKS after school.<\/p>\n<p>I don&#8217;t think there was one defining moment that I knew I wanted to have a career in the industry.\u00a0 It&#8217;s just what I knew and grew up on.\u00a0 Being able to go to concerts for free, the VIP treatment, hanging out with famous folks, I was like, I can get used to this.\u00a0 Another was when Toya Beasley, MD at\u00a0WRKS at the time, gave me my first add which was a Loose Ends record.<\/p>\n<p>My first industry job was as a receptionist at MCA Records.\u00a0 From there R&amp;B Promotion Assistant under AD Washington &amp; Ernie Singleton.\u00a0 Later I joined S.O.U.L.\/MCA Records under the leadership of Hank Schocklee.\u00a0 I moved to DC and become the Urban\u00a0Promotion Mgr for Perspective\/A&amp;M Records with Sharon and Don Eason.\u00a0 I transitioned\u00a0to Elektra Records, which merged into Atlantic.\u00a0 That is where my relationship with Morace Landy was solidified and moved over to join him &amp; the EMPIRE family.\u00a0 To date I am an Independent Contractor for EMPIRE and a few others.<\/p>\n<p>My biggest goal is to continue to make my mother proud and leave a legacy for the next generation to come.\u00a0 Over the years, I have noticed the change in the music, the people, and how my mother&#8217;s generation really did look after each other &amp; still do.\u00a0 The new digital divide, streaming, research and the creative way people get started from social media.\u00a0 The future of the music industry is different, not sure if it&#8217;s a good or bad thing.\u00a0 We all need to keep up with technology &amp;
