The year is 2015 and we’re back at the Taglyan Cultural Center in Hollywood. In honor of #BlackMusicMonth & our 30th Anniversary, we are remembering our past awards dinners and honorees. After announcer Michael Nixon introduced our host, Jammin’ Jay Michaels, another memorable evening was under way. Were you there?
Our Event Chairpersons were Brenda Andrews and Jon Platt. Fresh from performing in “Motown The Musical”, 13-year old Reed Shannon treated us to “Lift Every Voice” and industry vet & Pastor Marilyn Batchelor blessed the event. We used board members to introduce the honorees and industry kids as the trophy presenters. Raihana Jones is the daughter of Chris Jones and Eean Boles is the son on Renee Givens and Lamont Boles. We even had the Co-Founder of African Ancestry, Gina Paige, present David Linton with his test results of the tribe he’s descended from and gave everyone discounts to find. We had 2 dynamic performances from Angie Fisher and Stacy Barthe and surprised C.C. Evans with a special award for her years of service to the Foundation. At the end, Bowlegged Lou sent a hilarious video for Ruben Rodriguez’s Lifetime Achievement Award. The honorees that year were:
