Hi my name is Brittany Williams and I am an Account Executive for HOT 97, WBLS and WLIB Radio stations in NYC. My father’s name is Tyrone Williams. He produced the first Hip Hop Radio show, “Mr. Magic’s Rap Attack”, started Cold Chillin Records and signed major acts in the Hip Hop Industry like Big Daddy Kane, Biz Markie, Roxanne Shante, MC Shan and more.
Growing up in the 90’s, I was indeed the definition of an industry baby. Although I was too young to know how famous my father or his artists were, I knew when I went to school, a lot of my friends and their parents were huge fans.
I started an internship at WBLS in summer of 2012 and won the Internship Project of the Semester. Upon completion of my Suma Cum Laude earned Degree at the University at Albany for Business Management and Marketing, I received an offer for a full time position as a Local Sales Planner at WBLS and WLIB radio stations and then promoted to National Sales Planner within 2 years to additionally work for HOT 97. In addition to my current sales position as Account Executive, I am the Director of Production for The Brooklyn Tabernacle’s Young Adult Ministry MVMNT, and a playwright/writer for various plays, films, and television projects of my own.
Some of the changes I have seen in the music industry are a lot of artists being able to be discovered online. I still however, believe in the power of radio, because once an artist hears their song on HOT 97, WBLS or WLIB, they know they’ve made it.
This industry will continue to grow and allow more talent to be discovered in new ways as well as different types of talent. My ultimate goal is to be a triple threat in Radio, Writing and Directing, being able to use my talents for people to see my creativity through various sales campaigns and Theater/TV/Movie productions.
The song that inspires me on this journey is “Don’t You Worry ‘Bout A Thing” by Stevie Wonder, because it reminds me of my faith in God. No matter what obstacles come my way, I shouldn’t worry because I know the Lord has my back and will continue to help me to be successful.
