PTL Profile: Brent Neighbors

I’m Brent Neighbors, a pro-tech sound specialist with Guitar Center and professional DJ known as Jersey The DJ from the DMV (Washington, DC, Virginia and Maryland) to Atlanta, GA.   My mother is Sheila Eldridge, CEO of Miles Ahead Entertainment & Broadcasting who is a 25 + year entrepreneur and LLF 2016 ‘Entrepreneur’ honoree.

The majority of my life has been spent in the music industry from the age of seven going to London with my mother as a part of the IAAAM (International Association of African-American Music) delegation.  Over the years I experienced studio recordings, photo sessions, video shoots but I loved most spending time around radio and appreciating all types of music.

I attended Norfolk State University, majored in radio that furthered my passion. Thanks to my mom’s client, ABC Radio Networks, I met Doug Banks & DeDe McGuire, who groomed and gave me my first internship working in Dallas on the then nationally syndicated Doug Banks The Ride Show.  That defining experience helped me land a position with Clear Channel in Richmond, VA on their street team that led to my sharpening and developing my DJ’ing skills.

My ultimate goal is to expand my mobile DJ business and build a production studio to produce audio and video content to expand Miles Ahead Broadcasting into the growing streaming, cable and podcast markets.

When my mother started in the industry the Internet was not in existence so she traveled nonstop. Now with the age of the internet and social media, we are living in the “Now” age and can communicate in real-time, edit the product and broadcast for the world to view from their cell phone.  I’ve learned from my mother that you must think “miles ahead” to keep up with the evolution of technology that’s ever changing.

At first I thought the Internet would be the demise of radio as we know it, but it has actually expanded the experience for listeners and given birth to new opportunities with audio and video innovations.

Songs that have inspired me are Tupac’s “Dear Momma” and Nipsey Hussle’s “Dedication”.  Follow me @JerseytheDJ on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
