I am Andrew Harley, the Midwest Regional Promotions Director for Roc Nation. My father’s name is Maurice Harley, the Senior National Promotions Director for Republic.
I was definitely an industry baby. I would travel with my dad to concerts he’s working, passed out flyers, went on radio station visits and even took notes from calls in the car. I’ve done it all.
I would say the defining moment was my teenage years and seeing that my dad is able to provide for the family while doing something he loves. Being able to see this side of the business really intrigued me because he was getting paid to just talk about music! What’s better than that?
I started in healthcare actually.  I always wanted to be in music but when technology took off, people thought the music business was over so I went with a career in something more guaranteed.  Two years ago my dad brought me in to work as his intern to learn the business and I haven’t looked back since. My ultimate goal is to constantly challenge myself, never become content with the position I hold.  I would one day love to be running a label. I believe with the people I have in my corner as mentors, it’s very attainable with plenty of hard work and focus.
The biggest change I see is the technology. Information is constantly at our fingertips to help work records. When my dad was starting out, it wasn’t so easy to monitor sales and record spins. I view the future of music to be very profitable for a ton of people. Rap music specifically is taking over and it’s still so young that the possibilities are endless. I’m just happy to be along to have a courtside view of it all!
