MARILYN BATCHELOR
Marketing Guru/Chaplain
Today, the Living Legends Foundation is celebrating the Heroes of Black Music & Culture. Join us in congratulating MARILYN BATCHELOR, Marketing Guru/Chaplain, our recognized “Hero Behind The Culture”.
Marilyn’s life has followed the philosophy of Rev. Howard Thurman: “Don’t ask what the world needs. Ask what makes you come alive, and go do it. Because what the world needs is people who have come alive.”
This message has been the foundation of this 20+ year music executive, who began as an assistant, working her way up the ranks to SVP at Interscope/Geffen/A&M Records and creator of the strategic marketing department, one of its first at a music label. Her accomplishments at Universal Music Group resulted in more than $250 million over 10 years, as well as being the architect who built the relationship between Interscope and Monster Music, resulting in the Beats by Dre’ deal.
A woman of faith, the Detroit native is ordained in both the Methodist and Seventh-Day Adventist denomination and served as an assistant pastor while working at the record label. This life of service began at the age of five under the direction of both grandmothers. That same passion led her to connect recording artists with organizations that reflected their philanthropic interests.
Marilyn holds a B.A. from Syracuse University and a Harvard Business School MBA. Her love of Black studies led to a summer fellowship in France, “Paris Noir” with Syracuse University, where she studied the migration of Blacks from the U.S. to Paris, resulting in the project, “Color Blindness Through Stained Glass Windows.”
Marilyn completed a master of art in theology and clinical pastoral education certification to serve as a full time ICU and NICU chaplain at Providence Saint John’s Hospital in Santa Monica. She is currently completing a Ph.D in Religion and Gender Studies, with a focus in Black studies at Claremont Graduate University.

Marilyn, the Living Legends Foundation recognizes your hard work and love for the culture. We see you and now others will too!
