Derrick Brown has direct oversight of the on-air, online, and social networking aspects of Hip-Hop 107-5 WGCI, R&B V103 WVAZ, Gospel-formatted Inspiration 1390 WGRB, and BIN 640AM (Black Information Network) WMFN.
Derrick began his broadcasting career in 1986 as a corporate market research interviewer for Emmis Broadcasting in Indianapolis. He then moved on to on-air positions in Jackson, Tennessee (96KIX, WFKX), suburban Chicago, and later WGCI-AM (now WGRB-AM) and WGCI-FM. In 1996, Derrick started his career in programming management as Assistant Program Director and Midday Host at Adult Contemporary 93.9 LITE FM (WLIT).
Following programming tenures at Cox Radio-Miami (Hot 105, WHQT-FM) CBS Radio-Denver (Jammin’ 92-5, KDJM), and Radio One-Washington, DC (93.9 WKYS), Derrick joined iHeartMedia as Program Director of V103 in 2007, ascending to Director of Urban Programming in 2009, then his current position, Vice President of Programming in 2019. In November 2011, he was named to iHeartMedia’s National Programming Platforms team as R&B Brand Coordinator. In 2024, Derrick was tapped as Director of Programming & Brand Strategy, providing support for the company’s R&B, Throwback, and Gospel stations nationwide.
Derrick is a past recipient of Radio & Records magazine’s Program Director of the Year Award and has been named one of Radio Ink magazine’s Best Program Directors in America in 2013, 2017, 2018 and 2021. Additional honors include 2021 Music Business Empowerment Conference Program Director of the Year, and ranking 9th as one of Barrett Media’s 2024 Top 20 Urban/Hip-Hop Program Directors in America.
