Today, the Living Legends Foundation is celebrating the Heroes of Black Music & Culture. Join us in congratulating CARLA B. FERRELL, Program Director and Co-Host of The Steve Harvey Morning Show, our recognized “Hero Behind The Culture”.
Carla was born in Chicago and raised in Houston. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in Communications from Prairie View A&M University and has worked in radio in Houston, Chicago, New Orleans, and New York. In 2005, she joined The Steve Harvey Morning Show, where she currently works daily to create morning drive entertainment featuring music, compelling content, current events, topical stories, humor, and community issues.
Carla has garnered numerous radio programming industry awards: Billboard’s Assistant Program Director of Year, (Large Market), The National Association of Black Female Executives in Music & Entertainment (NABFEME) named her one of the “Ten Most Influential Women in Radio, and in 2020 she won the Gracie Award for Best National Radio Co-Host from The Alliance for Women in Media Foundation. In 2023, Carla was inducted into the Library of Congress in Washington D.C., as a member of the Black Women in Radio Historical Collection-Distinguished Inaugural 30.
In her personal life, Carla’s greatest influence does not come from her job or the A-List of celebrities that she has worked with. She draws inspiration from her faith in God, her family including her husband Tosh, daughter Tosha and a tight-knit group of girlfriends. Carla is a member of Jack and Jill of America, Incorporated and she uses her unique platform to help make a difference in various community service projects. She is also a tireless Breast Cancer Awareness Advocate in loving memory of her beloved mother, Patricia Ann Boatner.
