Black Music Month Remembers Gary Jackson

Gary Jackson was one of the most prolific entertainment writers in Hollywood.  With an emphasis on music, Jackson, who often vacillated from writer to senior chief editor, wielded his mighty pen at a number of prestigious entertainment magazines including Billboard, Variety, The Hollywood Reporter, HITS Magazine, ICE Magazine, and Urban Network.

An avid writer, Jackson, who loved what he did for a living, worked in earnest to pen more than 100 biographies and liner notes on key music industry stars including Stevie Wonder, Public Enemy, Cowboy Nation, Max Roach, General Public, and many more.

Writing about music was Jackson’s thing. He helped to conceive and conceptualize the editorial content of Rhythm & Business magazine, On The Scene Magazine and Village View. He also contributed his expertise to key music industry magazines Radio & Records, Black Radio Exclusive and Rap Sheet, and contributed reviews to Sun-Music.net, Radio Facts and more.

A sought-after and highly-respected speaker at innumerable music conferences, for six years Jackson taught a dos and don’ts of the music industry course at UCLA Extension.

Jackson’s philosophy was to always keep a finger on the pulse of the exciting and ever-changing entertainment world.   Gary Jackson died February 6, 2020.  Legends are defined by their work and how it impacts the culture.  We remember Gary Jackson so others don’t forget.
