PTL Profile: Victor Dyson & Veda Dyson-Nash

We are Victor Dyson, VP Director of Sales, The Carter Broadcast Group in Kansas City, MO and Vida Dyson Nash, CEO, RHM Mgt./UpLife LLC in Studio City, CA.  Our father, Marv Dyson, former President/GM for WGCI/WVAZ-FM/Gospel 1390 AM  in Chicago, IL. is currently the Founding Partner of URban Radio Broadcasting LLC and responsible for launching the successful radio careers of Steve Harvey, Tom Joyner & Doug Banks.

His colleagues/friends, Don Cornelius (Soul Train), Don Jackson (Stellar Awards), Jesse Jackson (Rainbow Coalition) were like family so we witnessed a lot of Chicago History unfolding during Marv’s tenure in radio. Being a kid of a radio legend allowed us to witness many historic performances by great artists and watch the medium of radio and urban music transition from R&B Soul to Hip-hop creating the landscape of today’s pop culture in America.

As Marv’s oldest son (Victor), I relocated to KC, realizing I could have a career in radio and make my own way without my father’s shadow.  As Marv’s 2nd oldest daughter (Vida), I was the first to follow in my father’s footsteps into the field of radio broadcasting as my dad volunteered my services to all departments at the radio station.  I knew then my career would be in the radio/music industry.

Vic has worked as Account Executive to VP Sales at KCMO, KMBZ, URban Radio Broadcasting and the Carter Broadcast Group.  Vida was in Sales, Promotion and News Broadcasting at WGCI, KJLH and KGFJ, Promotion Director at RCA, A&M/Perspective, Motown and Columbia Records, GM at Record Hitmaker Management and now CEO of Uplife LLC.

Our goal is to attract young people of color to the radio/music industries.  Social media and digital marketing has changed the way music and radio is marketed in today’s industry; much different from when our dad was in radio.  It’s our belief that there will always be an abundance of great talent in music and media. We will continue to see success and tremendous change in radio and music as we continue to honor those who have come before us so our African American legacy lives on!

The songs that inspire us are “We Fall Down” by Donnie McClurkin and “You Will Win” and “Bigger” by Jekalyn Carr.
