BBM Profile: Bruce Walker

I was born and raised in Washington DC and decided that I would travel across the country to college in California with playing sports in mind, not entertainment. From an early age I had a love for music and after graduating from college, I entered the working world and started playing in top 40 bands at night. That lead me to an internship at Motown Records and two years later I found myself as Sr. Vice President of A&R and General Manager of Motown’s Jazz Label, MoJazz.  After 8 years of working with Jheryl Busby and Andre Harrell, I worked in an era of music which sold millions of records.  During that time I worked as an executive producer and A&R executive on projects such as Stevie Wonder, Johnny Gill, Boyz II Men, Lionel Hampton, Norman Brown, Wayman Tisdale, The Olympic Jazz album and many more. I was and continue to be inspired by great R&B music created within this era especially songs like “Can You Stand the Rain“, “Cupid”, “Let’s Chill” and more.

I next landed at DreamWorks Music/SKG as General Manager once again under the iconic Jheryl Busby. This was the very start of music being a part of the DreamWorks brand that owned the film industry market. The first project I worked on was The Prince of Egypt where we released three soundtracks at one time in multiple genres: pop, country and gospel, which had never been done before. I created & executive produced a TV special using BET’s production staff that was distributed by BET & run several times. After DreamWorks, I began producing music & TV projects with such companies as BET, NBC/Universal, SiTV, Sony, Time Life, Hidden Beach and many more.

I relocated in 2016 back home to DC to become a part of yet another start up opportunity. The Office of Cable Television, Film, Music and Entertainment had just been created to bring those industries to DC, similar to how Atlanta has proven to be successful.  In 2016-2017, we received 4 NATOA Award Nominations & a Capitol Emmy in the Interview/Discussion category. I continue to operate my production company & consulting business B-Sharp Records and Entertainment with my wife Brenda.  Contact us at bwalkerconsult@gmail.com or bjwalker3700@gmail.com.
