BMM 2021 – Our 2001 Honorees

2001 is a memorable year these days for the September 11th attack on our country but months before, it was all love and celebration at the Adam’s Mark Hotel in Dallas. In honor of #BlackMusicMonth & our 30th Anniversary, we are remembering our past awards dinners and honorees.  WEA VP Ornetta Barber was the Dinner Chairperson and the entertainment was provided by Avant, Kee Kee and Damozel.  Who was there?  Roll call! The honorees were:

Top Row L-R:  Barry Beal, owner Shantinique Music retail store Detroit; Barry Mayo, radio programmer V-103, KISS, WGCI and photographer; David Banks, manager, producer, writer for Richard Pryor TV Show

2nd Row L-R:  George Daniels, founder George’s Music Room Chicago & founder National United Independent Retailers; Larkin Arnold Esq., attorney & manager, SVP Epic, Arista signing & executive producing major artists; Vinny Brown, radio programmer & announcer WAMO, WOL, WQOK, KISS, WBLS

Ornetta and some of these honorees are no longer with us but their contributions to the Black Music industry will never be forgotten.
