BMM 2021 -Our 1997 Honorees

We’re rolling along to 1997 and still part of the Impact Super Summit. In celebration of #BlackMusicMonth & our 30th Anniversary, we are remembering our past awards dinners and honorees.  The Impact Super Summit left Atlantic City and moved their conference to the Opryland Hotel in Nashville and we went with them.  The hosts that year were the legendary “Chief Rocker” Frankie Crocker and the Empress Of Soul, Gladys Knight. This year was also bittersweet because Beverly Taylor died of a heart attack before she could get her award.  What do you remember about this awards show? The honorees were:

L-R: Brenda Andrews, Sr VP Rondor Music International Music publishing;     Estes Fletcher, owner of 5 Fletcher’s One Stop Records & Tapes stores;  Jim Tyrrell, Sr VP Epic & Associated Labels Group handling R&B AND Pop music.

L-R: Tom Joyner, “The Fly Jock”, host The Tom Joyner Morning Show; Cecil Holmes, Co-Founder Casablanca Records, Founder Chocolate City Records, exec CBS Records; Verna Green, VP WJLB & WMXD Mix 92.3 Detroit

Some of these honorees are no longer with us but their contributions to the Black Music industry will never be forgotten.
