LLF Celebrate Board Members – Dr. Jerry Boulding & AD Washington

This month we will salute our male Board members, just as we introduced our female members in March. We start by remembering beloved members Dr. Jerry Boulding and A.D. Washington.

Jerry was one of the founders of the Living Legends Foundation, approached by Ray Harris to start a non-profit foundation to honor executives in radio, records & retail. Jerry earned the nickname “The Radio Doctor” because he would heal sick radio stations & increase their ratings. Jerry programmed 16 radio stations during his illustrious career, ultimately achieving the position of VP, National PD for Sonderling Broadcasting’s stable of 11 urban stations.  BTW, that’s his voice as the judge on 1968’s “The Court Of Love,” performed by THE UNIFICS!  He hired a young DJ named Tom Joyner at WVON, setting the stage for his multi-million dollar empire.

Jerry’s other career accomplishments were developing Heart & Soul, the first urban format for satellite delivery, head of the Black Music Division of MCA Records, co-founding Black Radio Exclusive and Urban Network magazines, and serving as Senior VP of Entertainment Programming for American Urban Radio Networks. Jerry was the Urban Editor for Allaccess.com at the time of his death on November 28, 2013.

A.D. Washington was the longest-serving Chairman from 1998-2011, leading the Foundation into the 21st century. After college, he worked at Arkansas’ U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development Department, under then-Governor Bill Clinton. A.D. started his career in the record industry at Stax Records before moving to LA, where he held senior executive positions at MCA, Warner Bros. & Capitol Records. After leaving the industry, A.D. formed AD Barak Corporation, an entertainment consulting firm which he ran until his death on November 22, 2017.  Our golf tournament has been renamed the A.D. Washington Scholarship Golf Tournament and is our fundraiser to provide college scholarships at HBCUs.

We are better human beings for their presence in our lives and this Foundation will always be grateful for their leadership.
