My name is Poet, proud lover of GOD, beards, bacon, family & sharing our authentic stories our way. I started my broadcasting career at 92Q in my hometown of Baltimore after beating out hundreds to snag a coveted internship, which evolved into co-hosting afternoons with the legendary Konan. Through hard work, Google & tenacity, I made my way to WPGC. I’m self-taught & village-trained in radio & television production & was given the opportunity to host my own Morning Show at X102.3FM in West Palm Beach, FL. I returned to DC as the Executive Producer of the Joe Clair Morning Show & Segment Producer for ABC Channel 7. I strutted into 2020 as the host of “Midday Shenanigans” on WPGC 95.5FM & an emerging voice of advocacy for the community. My show is all about “edutainment” where I entertain by spilling Henny Tea, while also educating those tuned in on everything from free money for college to sharing the benefits of mental wellness & self-love with our WPGC tribe, “The Village”.
I always wanted to be in radio/television but growing up in foster-care, my focus was more on being prepared to adult when I aged out the system than chasing my dreams. Winning that contest allowed me to step into my dream & changed my life forever. At WPGC 95.5FM, I met Angelique Alston-Brown, who would come to be one of my biggest inspirations.
Angelique is everything you’d want in a boss, mentor & friend all rolled into one amazing person. I loved watching her walk into any room as if she owns the place. Lique has been instrumental in helping me learn how to not only channel my black girl magic to be of better service to the village but how to listen to understand and not just to respond, so that I can truly be a voice for our listeners & our station.
One of the biggest takeaways from Angelique that I’ve utilized is to continuously share what I know with the generations after me so that once they’re in their respective places, they then turn around & do the same for those coming after them.
Every day is a testimony that I’m walking in my purpose & truly touching folks who choose to spend their days with me.
