BHM 2020 – Stormy Taylor

I started my career in college at SAU in Magnolia, AR. I’ve worked in radio in Little Rock & Dallas & The Potter’s House TV Ministry in Dallas. I’ve been the voice of KSOUL in Dallas & now I work at iHeart Memphis on V101. I am a co-host of the Mike Evans & the Memphis Morning Show with Earle & Stormy & I do middays. I also host a public affairs show on KJMS, WDIA, WHAL & K97 in Memphis.

My influences were Naomi Summerville, JC Love, the late Donna Creer, DJ No Name aka  Broadway Joe and Broadway Joe Booker. Naomi was smooth & knowledgeable about the music & artists & took me under her wing. JC & Donna made playing gospel music fun to listen to on commercial radio.  JC took me under his wing & taught me a lot. Broadway Joe gave me my first radio job. He taught me all about the business & to never make excuses. He taught me radio etiquette & for that I am forever grateful. DJ No Name taught me what I needed to know to work in a major radio market.

I have tried to sound like a few people during my 33 year career but now I just try to sound like me. The world is NOT looking or waiting on a copy of anybody.  They are waiting on me & my experiences & what I have to offer & THAT is A LOT.

I have had many proud moments. Interviewing the likes of Maya Angelou, Bishop TD Jakes, Taraji P. Henson, Kevin Hart & more, working in a top 10 market, working for & with Bobby O’Jay and most recently becoming a morning show personality with Mike & Earle. But I think I’m most proud of the young people that I have mentored like Bria Celleste, who now is a TV reporter in Detroit. I think that the greatest thing I could ever do is teach someone what others have taught me. Being the mother of two preachers, Mellony Martin & Derrick Marshall, grandmother of 3, soon to be 4, that makes me quite proud as well. Two big things happened for me last year; I became a morning talent again & I started my own business. I really didn’t know I had all of this in me but I guess God did. I am rich in blessings, in radio experience, in friendships, in love & in life for sure.
