Entertainment

Had someone told me at 17 that I would be in entertainment for 25 years, give artists like Common, Bone Thugs-N-Harmony, and D’Angelo, their first trade covers as GAVIN’s first Black, first woman and longest-running Rap Editor, write the definitive career guide about women in our industry, create over 100 Black music campaigns for Sony Music—including the Miseducation of Lauryn Hill, which celebrates its 20th anniversary this August,  I would’ve laughed.

I was on the path to a political career,  but my passion for building bridges and empowering people like me was meant to be in service to entertainment.  Now I’m in TV as a campaign writer (Being Mary Jane, BET Awards), a multiple festival selected filmmaker and an award-winning voice actor (IAMS, WNBA, Xfinity and more).  I am humbled by the acknowledgement of my creative innovation and contributions.  With the release of the 10th Anniversary edition of Put Your Dreams First: Handle Your [entertainment] Business in 2019,  I intend to keep creating world class work.
