BBM Profile: Marilyn A. Batchelor

Over the past 20 years, I’ve worked in the following roles:  national/sr. director, marketing, MCA Records. In 1999, I created the 1st strategic marketing division at a record label (MCA), serving as V.P. of strategic marketing, followed by SVP, strategic marketing for Interscope/Geffen/A&M Records, where I was the architect behind the Monster Music & Interscope relationship, resulting in the Beats by Dré headphones deal & brokered more than a billion dollars in deals over 5 yrs.

Later, I launched TBG Marketing, LLC and became film & TV music licensing exec at UMPG.  I have marketed and/or brokered brand deals for: Patti LaBelle; Common; Blink 182; Gladys Knight; Mary J. Blige; Sheryl Crow; Gwen Stefani; Rahsaan Patterson; The Roots and more. I’ve licensed music for major films, streaming & TV shows.

Every day, I awake with the mantra of reinventing myself.  Launching the strategic marketing division allowed me to work across genres & with brands outside music, keeping me marketable.

I operate TBG Marketing, offering services for indie music & film, artists & personalities.  In my life, I incorporate my love of God, culture, writing & academia, having earned a master’s in theology from Fuller Seminary and completing a PhD in Gender Studies, Public Policy & Religion while blogging & serving as an ordained pastor in the Methodist church.

The song that inspired me along the way is “I Hope You Dance.”
